FUNDED ENTIRELY BY WICKERSLEY RESIDENTS

Over the next 15 years

Rotherham MBC are proposing to build 12,750 new homes in Rotherham with a staggering three quarters (74%) of those on our precious and previously protected greenbelt.

This despite the fact that RMBC’s own statistics state that there is sufficient brownfield land to accommodate the vast majority of these homes.

Wickersley has been classified as a “principle settlement for growth” area, meaning we will see a large increase in housing, with almost all development on greenbelt.  This will have an unavoidable impact on ecology, schools, nurseries, doctors, dentists and the road network.

Proposed sites include land bordering Wickersley woods and other prized areas of green space in and around the village.

What we intend to do

We cannot allow unchecked development on one of our most valuable assets. This wanton destruction of our heritage and environment must be stopped.

We want RMBC to accept a zero-tolerance policy to development on greenbelt.  Full stop.   No “if’s” no “but’s”.

We have already commissioned a professional environmental survey which confirmed the serious impact that this development will have on Wickersley.

We intend to engage an expert planning consultant to challenge the RMBC’s ill conceived proposal.
